Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an Ecologist/Environmental Scientist to join our Enviro Socio Permitting team to support our expanding business in the Pacific Northwest or western U.S. across a range of sectors, including oil and gas, renewable energies, rail, mining, and linear utilities. The successful candidate will conduct desktop reviews; lead field data collection for wetland/aquatic resource delineations and species/habitat assessments; assist with technical report/permit application preparations, agency coordination, and regulatory compliance; and have experience supporting a variety of environmental permitting at the federal, state, and local levels. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The position will require a candidate to work both collaboratively with a team of resource specialists, planners, and engineers and have the capacity to balance varying priorities and tasks to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deliverable deadlines. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks and teams.

Role accountabilities:

As an Ecologist/Environmental Scientist, you will apply your technical knowledge to work with client teams and provide high quality deliverables to support planning and permitting for oil and gas, linear utilities, renewable energy, rail, and/or mining clients. You will be an important member of the western Enviro Socio Permitting team interacting with other biologists, ecologists, cultural resource specialists, planners, engineers, senior technical experts, and project/program managers as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Primary functions will include:

• Leading and supporting wetland and stream delineations, flora and fauna inventories, and habitat surveys
• Using your strong technical writing and communications skills to develop technical reports, work plans, memoranda, and other environmental documents to support permitting. Likely to include the preparation of regulatory permit application packages (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Clean Water Act Section 404 permit applications and Section 401 Water Quality Certification applications, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 408 review requests, Section 402 National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit applications, and state/local permits)
• Manage desktop environmental reviews using available datasets and methods to identify potential sensitive resources and permitting requirements and support development of permitting strategy to provide guidance to internal teams and clients
• Provide task management support to assist with the growth of new and existing client relationships through delivery of quality work and data
• Maintain electronic file systems and record keeping using SharePoint and other cloud-based platforms

This role is hybrid; however, as needed, you will need to conduct field assessments related to ecological aspects of projects. This will require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as carry supplies weighing up to 30 pounds. This role will require the ability to travel and conduct fieldwork up to 50% of the time.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or similar environmental discipline
• 2+ years of experience in aquatic resource delineation, environmental planning, and permitting, with demonstrated experience in the Arid West and/or Western Mountains regions
• Experience leading wetland delineations and habitat/species surveys and preparing the associated technical reports and permit applications
• Knowledge of regional ecology, sensitive habitats, and special status species
• Experience with evaluating project compliance with federal, state, and local laws and environmental and regulatory processes
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports and permit applications

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $76,110 - $114,165.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
