Huggins Hospital offers a variety of educational opportunities for students either in high school or healthcare affiliated post-secondary educational programs. These opportunities consist of both clinical and non-clinical areas, and are supported through the Department of Human Resources.
Clinical Rotation Students & Medical Students interested in learning more about a variety of careers relating to healthcare or continuing their education in the healthcare field. Job shadow or observation students are not attempting to earn school credit hours and have no set amount of time in which to complete the program. It is up to the Department Director and Vice President to determine whether they can accommodate a job shadow or observation student, and to also limit the number of hours for this opportunity. Job shadow and observation students will have no direct patient care, cannot work with any hazardous equipment, and may not participate in productive work such as filing, clerical work, etc. The maximum time allowed for a job shadow or observation student is 12 hours.
Process:
Once students have completed the online application, HR will determine if there is an available preceptor. Students should apply at least 60 days prior to requested start date to be considered.
If there is an available preceptor, Human Resources will reach out to the student to begin an onboarding process that will include:
State and National Criminal Background Check (Within 6 months of start date)
Hospital Orientation and all Human Resources/HIPAA required paperwork
Proof of negative IGRA or two step Tuberculosis testing TST within the past 12 months or completion of 2-step tuberculosis test by Employee Health
Flu Shot (current influenza season 1 Oct - 31 March)
COVID-19 Vaccination Status
Human Resources is responsible for the regulation of students and has responsibility for the placement of clinical internships, job shadows and observation students.
