Organizational Summary: The College of Behavioral & Community Sciences serves approximately 3,100 students with seven undergraduate, 14 master's, and seven doctoral programs housed in six academic departments/schools. The College is the home of the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute, one of the largest behavioral health research and training institutes in the country as well as 18 specialized Research Centers and Institutes. Our aim is nothing less than to be among the most influential resources for behavioral and community sciences in the region, nation, and world.

Position Summary: The Research Assistant will support a grant-funded early childhood education project. In this role, assistants will primarily focus on data collection, assessment administration, and fidelity monitoring to ensure the high-quality implementation of literacy interventions. We are hiring several assistants to work with schools in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.

DUTIES:

• Administer standardized language and literacy assessments to preschool students, including:
  • Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT)
  • Expressive Language Test
  • Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals - Preschool (CELF-P)
  • Other standardized measures as needed

• Conduct routine fidelity observations of intervention sessions to ensure consistency and adherence to research protocols.
• Prepare and organize testing materials.
• Engage with preschool students during assessments, ensuring a comfortable and structured testing environment.
• Maintain detailed records of assessment completion and fidelity observations, reporting to the research team frequently.
• Strictly adhere to all testing procedures and confidentiality policies to maintain the integrity of the study.
• Travel locally to assigned schools within Pinellas and Hillsborough counties, following all district and university research policies.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience. Higher education may substitute for the experience.
• Experience working with young children in an educational or research setting is required.
• Must be comfortable working in preschool classrooms and able to engage young children and maintain their attention during assessments.
• Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while following research protocols.
• The ability to build rapport with children, teachers, and school staff.
• Must be open to flexible scheduling and local travel within the assigned region.
• Reliable transportation is required.
• Will be subject to required Level II background check and Foreign Influence screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Education
  • Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in education, early childhood, speech-language pathology, psychology, or a related field is preferred.

Prior experience with the assessments is preferred but not required -comprehensive training will be provided.

Additional Information for Applicants:

Work Schedule & Compensation:

• Part-time position with a maximum of 20 hours per week, with occasional opportunities for additional hours based on project needs.
• Work hours follow school schedules and calendars and are typically Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
• Compensation: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour, based on experience.
• Mileage reimbursement will be provided for travel between assigned schools.
• Expected start date: Approximately February 24, 2025.
