Language & Culture Teacher Assistant (Healthcare)
Assist the Language and Culture Teacher with the planning, organizing, and implementing the Santa Ana In-school Keres language classes.
Assist in the development of classroom materials and lesson plans.
Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
Provide guidance as needed for students in the classroom.
Assist all special needs students as required.
Help to maintain a neat and organized classroom.
Assist students individually or in small groups with completion of assignments; listening while students read, reviewing or reinforcing class lessons, or helping students find information for reports.
Distributes and collects instructional materials.
Assist the Language Teacher with the community, youth and adult language classes.
Support and assist with the overall linguistics training & language development, for various age groups within the community.
Participate in other community promotional activities and events with other departments and entities.
Attend staff meetings and recommended teacher training
Performs other relevant duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma and or equivalent plus some experience working with various age groups on relevant duties and responsibilities within this position. Must obtain within 6 months of hire the New Mexico State Public Education Level I Native Teacher Assistant certification and successfully pass a background investigation. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license.

Knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of the Santa Ana traditions, language, history, and culture.
Ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner, exercise tact, discretion and confidentiality.
Knowledge and understanding of adult and youth learning principles, and of a wide range of training methods, techniques, and formats.
Knowledge of curriculum development and preparation procedures.
Ability to create learning aids which will strengthen lesson plans.
Ability to impart information to the student's level of comprehension.
Ability to comprehend the purpose of teacher designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional objective.
Skill in operating various word-processing and database software programs in a Windows environment.
Skill necessary to operate audiovisual equipment and common office machines.
Ability to accurately follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to record and store data accurately.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand; sit; use hands and fingers to touch, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally is required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in a classroom setting with moderate to loud noise levels and where employees may be exposed to unpleasant odors, hazardous material and infectious disease. There is frequent interaction with children, school staff, the public and employees.
