TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time Traffic Management Center Operator to join our team in San Bernardino, Ontario, California.
Job Summary: The Traffic Management Center Operator monitors the Traffic Monitoring Systems supporting the San Bernardino Country Transportation Authority (SBCTA) to ensure traffic flow throughout the Express Lane System. This position works closely with the SBCTA, Caltrans and California Highway Patrol staff that are co-located in the Traffic Management Center. This position will support a 24/7 TMC operation and therefore requires evening, weekend, and/or holiday shifts at times. This position may be required to be on call and is overtime eligible.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Monitor Dynamic Pricing for the Express Lanes System.
Monitor traffic flow.
Identify accidents.
Operate various computer-based traffic management systems.
Identify equipment or system malfunctions and submit work repair orders.
Monitor roadways via CCTV, PTZ surveillance cameras, and other ITS detection devices.
Assist Caltrans operators answer calls from commuting public on perceived traffic issues; maintains phone logs with all reported information.
Maintain incident information; prepare incident response time reports; Coordinate resources and incident responses with outside entities such as SBCTA, Caltrans and California Highway Patrol, etc.
Monitor accuracy and validity of road messages displayed on Toll Rate Dynamic Message Signs (TRDMS) and update changes as needed.
Light office work (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Required Skills & Experience:
At least one year experience working for a municipal transportation department; or one year experience working knowledge of Traffic Management Cetner operations preferred.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work independently under strict timelines and constantly changing priorities, while keeping supervisors informed of progress and issues.
Detail oriented, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
In-depth experience with computers and the ability to work on a multi-monitor computer workstation with different software and processes.
Ability to multi-task in fast paced situations and work multiple incidents, if needed.
Computer software knowledge; Microsoft Office, Spreadsheets, etc.
Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required
Supplemental Information:
Job location will be at the Fontana Caltrans Traffic Management Center located at 13970 Victoria St, Fontana, CA 92336.
The work days and hours for this position would be a shift within the coverage timeframe of Monday - Friday 5:00 AM - 8:00 PM with typical shifts being 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM OR 12:00 PM (Noon) to 8:00 PM
Salary Range: Up to $30 hourly, based upon experience.
