Program Coord, Senior Services (Personal Services)
Salary Range: $22.33 - $35.95/Hour FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to plan, develop and implement meaningful programs for senior citizens in DeKalb County. Supervises a number of contract instructors.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned contract staff; develops and oversees contractor work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
Plans and implements classes for senior citizens; determines which classes to offer depending on past success and future interest of the senior population; and determines the class schedule including days and times of each class.
Documents daily attendance of each class given to determine the interest level and viability of the topic; and manages the enrollment process of the students.
Oversees each of the contract instructors; provides a syllabus and other pertinent materials for the class; and monitors the success of the instructors and replaces them when necessary.
Acts as the Center Manager when the Center Manager is not available.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in Training and Development, Adult Education, Business or a related field required; two years of experience in program/curriculum development, adult education, or related field, plus experience in a lead or supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must obtain and possess a state of Georgia driver's license.

As a Programs Coordinator for Senior Services, with a focus on Health & Fitness, the primary responsibility is to design, execute, and supervise inclusive Health & Wellness programs that are tailored to meet the diverse needs of our members and community, while upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and character development.
Additionally, the position entails overseeing the day-to-day operations of the fitness center for senior center members, which includes managing personal training, group exercise classes, wellness seminars, and promoting community participation in wellness programs.
In accordance with this, the incumbent will be responsible for supervising all contracted Health & Wellness instructors, providing them with detailed syllabi and ensuring their adherence to the established standards.
